The Wake

The Wake are a post-punk/synth-pop band formed in Glasgow in 1981. The band's line-up initially consisted of Gerard McInulty, Steven Allen (his sister Carolyn Allen later joined on keyboards, and remained in the band thereafter) and Joe Donnelly, though the band would go through a number of line-up changes during its existence - including at one stage Bobby Gillespie, who would later be a member of Jesus And Mary Chain and Primal Scream. The band was initially signed to Factory Records, during which it released its best known album, Here Comes Everybody, but later moved to Sarah Records. The group disbanded in 1994, but reformed in 2009.

Links To Peel[]

Peel played the band's debut single in early 1982 and a year later had them do a session for his programme, where they performed four tracks. Throughout the 80s and 90s, the group had substantial airplay on Peel's programmes. After Peel's death in 2004, it was later found out that he had the band's first four albums in his Record Collection: W.
