Turkey (Turkish: Türkiye), officially the Republic of Turkey (Turkish: Türkiye Cumhuriyeti); is a parliamentary republic in Eurasia, mainly on the Anatolian peninsula in Western Asia, with a smaller portion on the Balkan peninsula in Southeast Europe. Turkey is bordered by eight countries: Syria and Iraq to the south; Iran, Armenia, and the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan to the east; Georgia to the northeast; Bulgaria to the northwest; and Greece to the west. The Black Sea is to the north, the Mediterranean Sea to the south, and the Aegean Sea to the west. The Bosphorus, the Sea of Marmara, and the Dardanelles, which together form the Turkish Straits, divide Thrace and Anatolia; they also separate Europe and Asia.

Istanbul-Turkey

Peel visited Istanbul with Sheila in 1994 as part of his work with the BBC World Service to make programmes about the music scene in the country. On his show on 26 November 1994 (BFBS), Peel explained how he discovered Turkish musician 2/5 BZ through collecting records from the country:

"In Turkey I picked up as always a load of cassettes and stuff and you know some interesting stuff in there, but only one really really rather astonishing recording and that's by a one man band called 2/5 BZ"

Peel finally had the chance for 2/5BZ to do a session for his programme in 2003, where he became the first Turkish artist to do a Peel session.
