Pixies Session #4[]

Regarding Pixies session #4 described herein as:

"4. Recorded: 1990-06-11. First Broadcast: Unknown, CD states 20 August 1990 but that show is avaiable in full and not listed

  • Allison / Velouria / Hang On To Your Ego / Is She Weird"

I believe that this session is actually a solo Black Francis session, recorded 11 June 1990 at Protocol Studios, London and engineered by Guy Fixsen. I have uploaded it as such at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70dut1XqB-w

The first broadcast date was (I believe) actually 26 June 1990, part of which is listed, including Velouria. Velouria is on the Pixies album Bossanova which was released on 13 August 1990. Peel did play tracks from the album prior to its release, but not until 31 July 1990. The single of Velouria was released on 16 July 1990. I therefore believe that the track Velouria played on 26 June 1990 was taken from the Black Francis session. Vibracobra23 (talk) 15:11, July 6, 2016 (UTC)

I had a listen to the track on the Patestape 26th June show, and John definitely introduces the band as the Pixies, and it is the Pixies' version of the song, sounding very different to the Black Francis session version. I would have thought that had the Black Francis session gone out on the same night, it might have been mentioned that this was the Pixies version of the track. Velouria was also played on the 3rd July.

As johnpeel3904 created the page and added the details for that session, maybe best to ask him?

PS this was discussed a year ago https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/peel/conversations/topics/21750

Ok, thanks Stuart. Have changed the broadcast date on my upload to a vague "shortly afterwards". It is definitely a solo Black Francis session though rather than a Pixies one. I'm sure Frank would confirm this. One member of the Yahoo Groups stated that they had a muffled copy of the same session where all four tracks were played in a row, but they don't mention what date it was broadcast. I'll keep digging (for fire)! Vibracobra23 (talk) 14:57, July 7, 2016 (UTC)
