Solar Race was an indie rock band from Manchester, UK, who released one album and a compilation as well a handful of singles during the mid-1990s. The band consisted of singer, Eilidh Bradley, drummer, Carl Rogers and guitarist, Andrew Holland. They were quickly signed to Silvertone Records – releasing the Not Here single in 1995 which was named NME’s Record of the Week.
Known for their raucous live shows, Solar Race also toured Europe with alternative rock act Bush, and recorded their debut album Homespun with revered producer Steve Albini at the prestigious Abbey Road studios in London.
The three-piece released the album in 1997 but split the following year.
In 2014, singer, Eilidh Bradley, tragically died of a suspected suicide.
Links to Peel[]
Peel played the band's debut single, Not Here, in early 1995 (the track later entered in that year's Festive Fifty) and would play further material from them, including two sessions on his programmes. He also interviewed the band on his 14 July 1995 show. The group also released a Peel Sessions album in 1997, but split the following year.
