Rod Bernard (August 12, 1940 – July 12, 2020) was an American singer who helped to pioneer the musical genre known as "swamp pop", which combined New Orleans-style rhythm and blues, country and western, and Cajun and black Creole music. He is generally considered one of the foremost musicians of this south Louisiana-east Texas idiom.
Links to Peel[]
Peel was fond of Bernard's This Should Go On Forever track, which reminded him of his time in America. After his death, it was later found out that Peel had kept one of Rod Bernard's singles, This Should Go On, in his Record Box, a wooden box containing 142 singles, that he would take if there was a fire at his home.
