07 August 1987 (BFBS)

(JP: "Not entirely sure about the progressive rock guitar solo, but no matter.")
(JP: "Well, Kenny Dalglish is my aeroplane, but to each his own.")

14 August 1987 (BFBS)

(JP: "Right, the people in quality control appear to be asleep, so it's time to slip another John Peel's Music From BFBS past the blighters. In the programme this week, all of the usual rowdy stuff, starting with...")
(JP: "I like the dream sequence in the middle of that: a chance for you to switch off your mind and float downstream, or whatever the quote is.") [1]
(JP: "While that was going on, a highly-trained member of the BFBS technical staff came in and removed the compact disc player from this studio. They don't trust me here, you know.")
(JP: "Never can make up me mind about those, you know. Sometimes I like 'em, sometimes I don't.")
(JP: "One of the great footballers he was, you know, Ralph Coates. Dunno what he does these days: I hope he's doing something worthwhile and that he enjoys. One of the few players I'd like to have seen playing for Liverpool who didn't, in fact: played for Burnley and Spurs, as I say, he was completely wasted when he came to London to play for Spurs.") Footnotes
  1. "Turn off your mind, relax and float downstream" (Beatles, Tomorrow Never Knows).
  2. John's memory and Wikipedia seem to be at odds here: to quote the latter, "he played over 300 games for Tottenham and earned winner's medals for the 1972 UEFA Cup and the 1973 Football League Cup Final where he scored the winning goal in the final."
