Ozum is a trio of throat singers from the Russian Republic of Tuva, situated in Siberia bordering Mongolia. The trio consists of Otkun Dostai, Oolak Ondar and Stanislav Iril. The name Ozum in the local Tuva language mean Sprout. Not much information is known about the group.

Peel heard the group when colleagues in Russia sent several Russian records to him, when he was visiting St Petersburg and the Baltic states during the summer of 1992 for the BBC World Service. Peel decided to pick a track from the group for his show, due to the uniqueness of their throat singing. However he mistakenly on his 24 July 1992 show called their track Khoomei Dostai, as member Otkun Dostai's surname was next to the song title on the record. It was not the only time Peel played throat singing music. In 2003, he invited members of Huun-Huur-Tu, also from the same Russian Republic of Tuva, to do a session for his show with Nina Nastasia at Peel Acres.
