Daniel Hunt

Daniel Hunt (born 25 July 1974) is an English musician, songwriter and producer from Liverpool. He is a founding member, principal songwriter and producer of the electronic band Ladytron. During the band's live shows, Daniel plays synthesizers, guitar and occasionally perform background vocals. In the 90's, Daniel Hunt was in an indie rock band called Jules Verne until they split in the mid-90's. In the late 90's, he later joined with Venini, which featured members including Russell Senior who was previously of Pulp. Along with Venini, Hunt got involved with the Chevette group, where amongst material they covered Pulp's We Can Dance Again. He also founded Ladytron with Reuben Wu, who he met first in the mid-90's.

Using a moniker inspired by the song "Ladytron" by Roxy Music, Hunt and Wu recorded the group's debut single, "He Took Her to a Movie" for £50 with the guest vocalist Lisa Eriksson and released it in 1999. In the summer of that year, Hunt and Wu met the Scottish student Helen Marnie through various DJ gigs, and the Bulgarian student Mira Aroyo through a mutual friend. Marnie and Aroyo joined the band as vocalists and keyboardists. Helen Marnie studied music at the University of Liverpool where she received a Bachelor of Arts in pop music in 1999. Mira Aroyo was a postgraduate research geneticist in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Oxford.

Peel seemed to have discovered Daniel Hunt's first music project, Jules Verne in early 1992 through their track, Strangely Enough, which was on a compilation album called The Dark Side Of The Pool. Later on in the summer of that year, he invited the band to do a session for his show in which they performed four tracks. As Jules Verne sizzled out, Daniel Hunt got involved with Venini, but their material didn't seem to get any airplay from Peel, until 1999 when JP played Ladytron and Chevette's cover version of Pulp's We Can Dance Again from the Special Skool (The Best Of Invicta Hi-Fi) compilation album.

In the early 00's, Ladytron started to gain greater airplay on Peel's show especially two sessions for his programmes, as well as gaining more exposure in the music press. At the end of 2002, Peel nominated their album, Light And Magic, as one of his albums of the month for December 2002 (Peel's Record Box), along with his listeners voting Ladytron's Seventeen track into the Festive Fifty. The track eventually peaked at number 31 in the 2002 Festive Fifty.
