If your record was played on the Peel show or you did a session, we'd love to hear from you.

[edit] Tell us your stories

Following an initial suggestion on the Peel Mailing List (for details see Forum:Artist page suggestion, Dale of American TV Cops told John Peel Wiki the story of how his band were played by Peel and then had a Peel session. You can read all about it on the American TV Cops page.

If you were a "Peel artist" - in other words, had at least one record played by the great man, did a Peel session or sessions, played at event compared by Peel, recorded for Dandelion, etc - we'd love to hear all about it for inclusion on an Artist page on this site. If there isn't one for you or your band already, don't worry, we'll open one up ASAP.

Just leave your message below and we'll incorporate your story into an Artist page for you or your band (don't forget to tell us who you are of course).

For an example, please check the American TV Cops page, "From the horse's mouth" section. But please feel free to use a different format or make your story as long or short as you like.

Many thanks

PS If you weren't a Peel artist yourself, but know someone who was, or is the brother of one's postman (etc), please ask them for their Peel stories and post them below.

Hello - I'm Neil Thompson - Peely played the band I was in - The Carpettes - a few times and we also recorded two sessions for him in 1978. He also sent a Christmas card in 1978 which I still have. I met the great man in 1986 - I was on the door at Fulham Kings Head for the Bhundu Boys. I'd been told he was on the guest list. When he came in he told me about the guest list but I asked his name - he replied John Peel and didn't think twice about it - none of this 'Don't you know who I am' business. I had a chat with him later and he remembered the Carpettes.

Hi Neil, Great to hear from you and many thanks for your message. Assume it's OK with you to go ahead and make an Artist page for the Carpettes, including your message. Wonder if you have any particular memories of recording the band's two sessions, hearing them on the radio, hearing your records played by Peel, etc. If so, would be great to include them too. A quick search of this site's (far from complete) database turns up two plays of your records, but assume there were others too. Cheers, Steve W 13:13, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
