Eek-A-Mouse (born Ripton Joseph Hylton, 19 November 1957) is a Jamaican reggae musician. He is one of the earliest artists to be described as a "singjay". Eek-A-Mouse is well known for pioneering his own style of scatting, differing from the-then toasting deejays in the 80s. He adopted the stage name "Eek-A-Mouse" in 1979, taking the name of a racehorse he always bet on; it was a nickname his friends had used for some time.
Links to Peel[]
Peel played Eek-A-Mouse's debut single in 1980 and was very enthusiastic about the singer's unique style of scattering that was different from other reggae singers. So impressed, he managed to get Eek-A-Mouse to do two sessions for his programmes between 1983 and 1984. By the late 80's and 90's, Peel didn't play much of the singer's work, but did revisit him occasionally in the early 00's.
