Dougie Wardrop is a reggae artist and label/studio owner of Conscious Sounds & Conscious Sounds Studio. He has formed over the years different dub bands including Centry, Bush Chemists, Dub Specialists, East Meets West, Hydroponics, Jungle Neck, Messenjah and many others. Wardrop had run a record stall in Camden Market since 1988 and began creating his own dub tracks using a 4-track recorder in 1989, setting up his own Conscious Sounds label shortly afterwards. His main collaborator is Paul Davey, and they have worked regularly with singers including Kenny Knots and Culture Freeman.
Links to Peel[]
Peel first started playing Wardrop's material when he formed his own record label. Many of the acts on the label were played by JP during the 90's and 00's and involved many of Wardrop's input in the production. One of the acts, Centry, did a session for Peel's show in 1994. He also played tracks from Wardrop's Jungle Neck project, where the musician experimented with jungle music.
