Brian Auger and the Trinity were a British band led by keyboardist Brian Auger. His duet with Julie Driscoll, the Bob Dylan-penned ‘This Wheel's on Fire’, was a number 5 hit on the 1968 UK Singles Chart. Their joint album, ‘Open’, billed as Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger and the Trinity, reached number 12 in the UK Albums Chart the same year.[1]

In 1970, Auger formed the jazz fusion ensemble Brian Auger's Oblivion Express shortly after abandoning the abortive "Wassenaar Arrangement" jazz rock commune in a small suburb of The Hague.

Before Trinity, Auger and Driscoll had performed together in Steampacket, with Long John Baldry, Rod Stewart and others. When the Trinity became famous, it was the photogenic Driscoll, dubbed "the face of 1968", who attracted most media attention, although Auger's keyboard skills made him a Melody Maker favourite, being interviewed regularly in the paper and featuring in its musical instrument supplements. In a couple of MM interviews, Auger praised Peel as the only DJ willing to play records by his group, and by similar bands on the UK scene.

After Julie Driscoll left, Brian Auger was able to continue with the Trinity and Peel introduced them on a 1970 concert programme. The DJ also had Auger's later band, Oblivion Express, in session in 1972 after introducing them on a Radio 1 concert show in the previous year. .
