The Beloved

The Beloved is a British electronica band founded by core member: Jon Marsh. The band first started making indie-guitar music initially and was originally formed as The Journey Through in 1983 by Jon Marsh & Steve Waddington, who soon recruited Tim Havard on bass. Renamed The Beloved in 1984 as Guy Gausden joined on drums, the band began to play live. After several singles and some self released albums, the group changed their music direction into electronic dance music, where they started gaining UK top 40 UK hit singles.

By 1993, The Beloved became a duo of Jon & his wife Helena with the single "Sweet Harmony", a major hit in the UK and across Europe. The album "Conscience" followed and 2 more singles. Followed in 1996 by the album "X" with the top 20 hit "Satellite".

In December 1984, singer Jon Marsh waited outside the BBC, Portland Place one night and gave a demo tape to John Peel. Within a fortnight they had been booked for a session. Marsh's school friend, Guy Gausden, had played drums with them at a couple of gigs and they persuaded him to join as a permanent member. Having barely rehearsed, and with two brand new songs out of four, they debuted as a four-piece on their debut Peel session in January 1985. A second Peel session followed in October 1985 and soon afterwards their first single, "A Hundred Words", which also entered the 1985 Festive Fifty as a session track, was released in April 1986. By the start of the 90's, Peel had lost interest in the band.
