  • Peel sets a competition to ask listeners what foreign language was spoken at the beginning of the programme. Prizes include a bunch of LP's. The language was in fact Scottish Gaelic. Thanks to Yahoo member Inselstricken, the translation goes like this - "If you are listening to this programme up in the Radio nan Eilean area, why don't you listen to me on the programme. Don't stay up late, John Peel's hopeless anyway. I'm on Radio nan Eilean and I've got a programme of my own. Switch off John Peel".
