Start of show: "School holiday time, so there may be some shrieking in the background. If there is, I apologise for that in advance."
Peel relates a visit to Vienna, during which he went to see John Lee Hooker, and took exception to the contributions made by the organ player in the band, each of whose solos, "in the manner of Keith Emerson", caused John to scream abuse at him.
(JP: 'Whilst I was in Vienna, I had the chance to go to the Nachtexpress studios, so that I now actually know what the studio looks like that this programme emanates from, saw piles of the forms which I have to fill in in order to satisfy people at this end, mainly, gathering dust in a corner, and most importantly of all went to an entertaining beer garden where we were welcomed by a twelve foot high figure of the Lord Jesus with outstretched arms. Exactly the kind of thing that I like. A good night, certainly: no question about that.')
(JP: 'It's always really difficult with these Nachtexpress programmes to decide what records to leave in and which records to take out. I mean, obviously there are thousands, probably really literally thousands of records that I would like to play you. That record there, for example, took up a ninth of my monthly allocation. Worth it, though, I think.')
(JP: 'Of course, what I really need is more time on the Nachtexpress, but in order to achieve that, I have to have sex with lots of executives, and frankly I've got a bit of a headache, so we'll just have to stick with one hour a month for the time being.')
